Tag der offenen Tür

08.07.2023 in Stuttgart (Hohenheim), Deutschland

On Saturday, July 8, 2023, the University of Hohenheim opened its doors again and invited visitors of all ages to experience the beautiful university campus live.

Presentations with fascinating insights into the multifaceted world of research through exciting lectures, tours and information stands as well as numerous interactive activities, which were also suitable for children. Pupils, prospective students and students had the opportunity to get answers to all questions about choosing a course and to gain interesting insights into the work of the faculties of natural sciences, economics and social sciences as well as agricultural sciences. In addition, participants enjoyed a wide range of culinary delights and refreshments at the stands of the students of the University of Hohenheim and at the various food trucks.

At this time, our Hohenheim Research Center for Global Food Security and Ecosystems collaborated in a joined stand with the Hohenheim Research Center for One Health Sciences and the Department of Communication and Advisory Services in Rural Areas.

The topic of the stand was “Together for Sustainability”. Our motivation was to raise awareness that complex issues such as the climate catastrophe, world hunger and how the loss of species determine sustainability discussions (SDG). To tackle these problems of our time, we need the participation of all social actors, from research to industry to civil society. The solutions must be developed from different perspectives towards a sustainable world with the cooperation between researchers and non-scientific actors.

Our colleagues from the Hohenheim Research Center for One Health Sciences presented their projects and the Department of Communication and Advisory Services in Rural Areas introduced the Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems (AKIS) concept. We presented 3 of our projects: CANALLS, Trans4Num, and Acroalliance. In addition, we asked people who visited our stand “What influence do non-science actors have in research?” and the perception of about 80% of the respondents is that the influence of non-science actors in research is high.
