Online consultation for developing the Voluntary Guidelines for Sustainable Soil Management    [03.03.16]

The Global Forum on Food Security and Nutrition team invites you to an open online consultation on the ‘Zero draft’ of the Voluntary Guidelines for Sustainable Soil Management (VGSSM), which have just been released.

Dear Colleagues,

We are happy to invite you to an open online consultation on the ‘Zero draft’ of the Voluntary Guidelines for Sustainable Soil Management (VGSSM), which have just been released.

Eduardo Mansur, Director of the Land and Water Division in FAO, invites all those interested in soils to comment directly in the Global forum or to send track changes on the Zero Draft directly. This online consultation invites you to address the following questions:

  • Does the zero draft sufficiently outline a way to achieve sustainable soil management worldwide?
  • Have all the key technical elements to achieve sustainable soil management been included in the guidelines?
  • Do the guidelines take into account the great variety of ecosystem services provided by soils?
  • Will the results of the guidelines, once implemented be sufficient enough to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?
  • Do the guidelines identify activities that should be avoided to achieve multiple benefits through sustainable soil management?

This online consultation is organised by the Global Soil Partnership and is hosted on FAO's Global Forum on Food Security and Nutrition (FSN Forum), with the aim to seek your feedback on the questions presented below.

Please find the invitation below and the questions proposed. Your comments are welcome in English, French and Spanish; track changes to the draft can also be sent.

To participate you can either register to the FSN Forum here and post online or send your comments via email to
FSN-moderator@fao.org.

On the webpage you will find further resources and links.

Looking forward to a lively exchange,

The FSN Forum team
